New Yorkers: Take Action for Marriage Equality

Hey, fellow New Yorkers! As you may have heard, our state Senate passed a bill for marriage equality yesterday, but it's facing a tough battle in the House. We all need to call and write our representatives and tell them we will not stand for being less cool, less loving, and less equal than Iowa. (And Connecticut. And New Hampshire. And Vermont. And Massachusetts. . . . Seriously, this is embarrassing.) FiveThirtyEight has the breakdown of representatives for and against; Andrew Sullivan has a helpful list of contact information. Let's do this.

  1. Thanks for these links - I hadn't realized before now that my assemblywoman is in the undecided camp. Off to write...

  2. Senator, I mean. She used to be our assemblywoman, though.

  3. My State Senator is firmly in the "no" camp, which I find very troubling. Writing him a letter now. Will be calling his office tomorrow.

  4. As a recent transplant to the state of Iowa, I was so shocked and thrilled at the recent decision! Who would have thought.. a state in the middle!

  7. How horrifying when all us hay-seed-IOWANS have to lead the way for all you liberal coastal folk! Maybe we aren't as backward as you thought we were? Maybe when we voted for OBAMA in the caucuses a year ago January it wasn't that much of a fluke? Hmmm?

    sign me,
an Iowan for darn near most of my life!
