Happy Birthday to Me, and Happy My-Birthday to You!

I have always believed birthdays are days for sleeping late, hanging out with your Favorite People on Earth, eating delicious food, and all other manner of self-indulgence (including this post, in fact). But upon further consideration, I don't think the self-indulgence should end with me; and as the all-powerful Birthday Girl, I grant permission to all of you to eat an extra piece of chocolate, read an extra chapter in that delicious novel, spend an extra half-hour basking in the sun -- in general, do a little something extra of whatever it is you like best. It's on me.

Enjoy the day!

  6. Happy dang birthday, Cheryl! You are one of my favorite people on the internet. I never cease to be infinitely glad that you exist.

As for self-indulgence, today was a good day for it! I got a call from Becky Terhune this afternoon to see if I just might have time to illustrate a book for Scholastic. I, of course (after calmly screaming into a pillow) wobbly answered yes.

I got to go on an outing with my dad who was hospitalized for six months this past year and is now home. = Pure awesome.

And for total indulgence, I read two extra chapters of Dahl's "The Fantastic Mister Fox" to the boy tonight, even though it was late. He asked and it IS a delicious story.

I’ll do my best tomorrow to top today in honor of your birthday. It may be a bit of a reach but I'll give it my best shot. Chocolate will be involved.

Many happy returns of the day!

  7. Happiest of birthdays to you, Cheryl!

In your honour I will now stop work, eat a chocolate frog, and start reading "On Beauty" which I bought for my own birthday and has been sitting by my bed untouched ever since. Yay!

  10. Oh, the happiest of happy birthdays to you! It's my friend Sylvia's birthday too -- you might remember her as one of the founding members of RUSS-L. So all in all a rather good day to be born, I think!

  12. Fast tracking to 30. Congrats! Love to see another September girl - mine was last week. But can someone please tell my kids it's a day of self-indulgence? I mean, a day of self-indulgence for me, not for them, which is what they seemed to think it was.

  13. That was yummy. Thank you, and thanks, too, for making all treats non-caloric on this day.

    And happy birthday!
