Crusie-ing . . . on a Saturday Mornin' . . .

It looks like I won't be posting my plot talk for another week or so because my non-work, non-friends free time is being eaten up by . . . more work. Sigh. It's that time of year, when we're getting Arthur off to Bologna, dealing with the Fall 2006 production passes and readying the Spring 2007s; and if I want to actually read a manuscript, I have to do it in the evenings or on weekends. So there goes my Saturday (though I did get to sleep late).

But in the meantime, if you want to be thinking about writing craft, Jennifer Crusie-who-I-still-adore-even-if-she-needs-to-drop-the-military-guy has posted wonderful little essays on voice, description, and real time on her blog with the military guy. And I also commend these two pieces on her website:

As with romance novels, so with children's books. Okay, not 100%. But it *is* all about the characters and relationships . . .

Enjoy the weekend!

  1. I'm going to have to read some of her books now. (I'm remarkably unread in modern adult literature - i've been reading lots of YA for 'research') I just stumbled across her blog yesterday, and was astounded by her wonderful writing advice. :)

And Bologna makes me a little sad this year because i was hoping to actually be there - but the school year in France didn't work out like i was hoping. Ah, well. One year i will go.

  2. I work at a library with a lot of women who love Jennifer Crusie, though I haven't read anything by her. But I loved the links you gave us. Maybe, just maybe, I'll check her out...only so I can be up on what my co-workers are talking about. ;-)

  3. "Head popping and info dumping," Now there's something to think about! Thanks for the link! Tasty!

I loved the bit about romance and TV but to be fair it wasn't just any old sitcom or cop show she was referencing, it was Buffy, Queen of the long tormented love affairs. It was the only program that made me pick up the phone and called a friend at ten o clock at night incoherently wailing, "Spike! Argh! Did you see that?"

    Oh Joss, where are you?
