Now live and in your computer! It's your chance to see me and many of my Scholastic colleagues talking about the books we're publishing and love. Here's the whole thing, just under an hour long:
Or you can go to the preview page to view the preview by age range or formats. My books are, in the middle-grade section:
- Stealing Air by Trent Reedy (with a special appearance by Trent himself!)
- The Encyclopedia of Me by Karen Rivers (a book that came to me as a SQUID!)
- The Savage Fortress by Sarwat Chadda (presented jointly with Arthur, who represents Geeks, Girls, and Secret Identities by Mike Jung)
I'll give away two galleys of each of them, to eight commenters chosen at random. Your task, commenters: Tell my fiance & me where we should go on vacation this summer. We can't decide.
Thanks for uploading this! I'll check it out in the morning. ;) Seattle has beautiful summers - come here! But if I could go anywhere it would be back to Santa Barbara - I don't think there's a more beautiful place...
ReplyDeleteWe are heading to Charleston, SC to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. All I hear about it is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteFlorence, Italy. We just returned from there. It has both man-made and natural beauty. The city center is a labyrinth of alleys, squares, and cobblestone streets. Ornate churches and history are everywhere. The food is wonderful, the wine divine--and gelato!
ReplyDeleteGo to the airport, see what flights have available seats, flip a coin and explore! (If you end up in Omaha, go to the zoo. It rocks.)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this! I suggest Portsmouth, NH--a little New England, a little beach, a little boating, a little lobster, a little city, a little country. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteKentucky. My back porch.
ReplyDeleteParis. It is the most romantic place, ever, even more than Venice, which is the most beautiful place on earth.
ReplyDeleteGo to Paris. It is everything all the stories say. And more.
The OR coast. Because, well, that's where I wish I could go!
ReplyDeleteCheryl, come to Whidbey Island in WA state. It's so romantic, I visited here years ago, fell in love, and I'll never leave!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI suggest Lisboa, Portugal for your vacation ... We had a lovely time there a couple of summers ago at a fraction of the cost of other European cities. I can suggest a great B&B if you're interested.
Michigan! Traverse City for the Cherry Festival or Film Festival, or Mackinac Island!

Ditto DustySE. The Oregon coast is gorgeous (and hopefully not too cold in the summer).
ReplyDeleteOf course, if I had the money, I'd go to Istanbul and see the Hagia Sophia, my favorite building in the world. They say that if you're there when the sunbeams slant horizontally through the clerestory, the dome looks like it's floating on a cloud of light.
Have you thought about Montana or Wyoming? We’re heading to Big Sky this summer. The night skies are filled with stars, the locals are laid back and friendly, and Yellowstone is only an hour away. Plus, everyone seems to have a friendly dog - always a plus in my book.
ReplyDeleteToronto is a great city. We were going to go for a long weekend but have to go to see family instead. Or San Diego is supposed to be really cool too.
ReplyDeleteThe Savage Fortress sounds really good and something I think my blog readers would like. Hope I win it.
Ooooh! What a fun question and giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'd say Hong Kong, but the heat is awful in the summer, so maybe not.
Have you been to Whidbey Island in Washington State? Deception Pass is one of the most gorgeous places on earth, imho.
Happy travels!
Jackson Hole and the Tetons! You could go rafting down the Colorado. It's gorgeous and the local theaters and food are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteIceland - we went their for our honeymoon years ago during the month of July. the scenery is spectacular and country is not crowded at all. we did a self-driving tour through the countryside. we literally stopped the car on the road got out and took pictures for 10minutes without another car even passing by.
ReplyDeleteIceland - we went there for our honeymoon almost 10 years ago during the month of July. The scenery is spectacular, and no need to worry about crowds. We did a self-driving tour through the countryside and one time stopped the car on the state road, got out took pictures for 10 minutes and didn't even see a single other car.
ReplyDeletesorry for the double-posting, I got an error the first time i tried.
DeleteCome to lovely San Francisco by the bay ... then I can show you and your fiance the town and you can eat crab and sourdough bread to your heart's delight then walk beneath ancient redwoods. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the preview!
Door County in Wisconsin is worth a trip. It's lovely and it has great bed and breakfasts, quaint shopping, water and outdoor activities, nice restaurants, cute local libraries and more. Whenever we go, I can feel my blood pressure dropping.
ReplyDeleteTry Edisto Island in South Carolina. Stay on the St. Helena Sound. You'll see dolphins every day and the most beautiful sunsets. It is remote and quiet and perfect.
ReplyDeleteFun question and great looking books! I think you both should go on an Alaskan cruise!
ReplyDeleteGo to Argentina! Learn to Tango, meet some Gauchos, and explore Patagonia...
ReplyDeleteThis is a no brainer. Colorado. Denver, the Mile High City, ride the light rail and free shuttle down the 16th Street Mall stopping at Tattered Cover Book Store. Hit the mountains, Estes Park (The Stanley Hotel. Take a drive to the Sand Dunes (sand surfing!). Then there's Royal Gorge (the world's highest suspension bridge) and white water rafting !
ReplyDeleteTalk about diversity!
If you're thinking internationally: Mykonos
ReplyDeleteIf you want to stay close to home: Martha's Vineyard
Go to a beach...Hawaii is off season and lovely
ReplyDeletetopangamaria
We just got back from Isle of Palms, SC. It's only 20 minutes from Charleston and we loved every second of it. I think Charleston has all the history of New Orleans without the smell or stumbling drunks (but I still love New Orleans).
ReplyDeleteAnd the food!
How about Australia? Just saw a tourism commercial with breathtaking scenes; it looked astonishingly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe Adirondacks in NY- beautiful and not blazing hot.
